Discover our story — from humble beginnings in 1957 to one of Nigeria's most respected Catholic secondary schools. A community of faith, scholarship, and brotherhood.
"A school is not merely a building. It is a tradition — and SAHARCO's tradition is one of truth, excellence, and service."
Sacred Heart College Eziukwu Aba — fondly known as SAHARCO — was established in 1957 by the Catholic Diocese of Aba. From the outset, the school was conceived as more than an academic institution; it was to be a place where boys from across Abia State and beyond would be formed in character, faith, and intellectual excellence.
The school takes its name and inspiration from the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a devotion central to the Catholic tradition that emphasises love, compassion, and self-giving service. This spirituality has animated SAHARCO's approach to education for over six decades.
Today, SAHARCO stands as one of the foremost secondary schools in Abia State, with a distinguished alumni network spanning academia, business, medicine, law, the church, and public service — men whose lives bear witness to the school's motto: Testimonium Perhibere Veritati.
Everything at SAHARCO flows from three foundational commitments: a clear mission, an inspiring vision, and a set of core values that govern how we treat each other, pursue knowledge, and serve the world.
To provide an excellent Catholic secondary education that forms young men of strong faith, sound character, and academic distinction — equipping them to bear witness to truth and serve God and humanity with integrity and competence.
To be the leading Catholic secondary school in South-East Nigeria — a community of excellence where faith and reason flourish together, and where every graduate is prepared for leadership in every arena of life.
We hold that education is the development of the whole person: mind, soul, and body. Academics, spiritual formation, discipline, and co-curricular engagement are not separate concerns — they are facets of a single, integrated formation.
"Education is not merely the transmission of knowledge — it is the formation of conscience, the lighting of a flame that no darkness can extinguish."
Sacred Heart College Eziukwu Aba stands as one of the finest expressions of the Catholic Diocese of Aba's commitment to the integral formation of young men. Since 1957, this institution has been a place where faith and reason, discipline and creativity, tradition and aspiration are held together in fruitful tension.
I encourage every student, parent, teacher, and alumnus to remain steadfast in the values that define SAHARCO: truth, integrity, service, and love of God. May every young man who passes through these gates go forth to bear witness to the truth in every arena of life — in the home, the workplace, the Church, and the public square.
To the students: study hard, pray faithfully, and treat one another with the respect due to sons of the Sacred Heart. You carry not only the name of this school — you carry its honour.
"We do not simply teach subjects — we shape souls. Every lesson, every correction, every act of encouragement is an investment in a future Nigeria needs."
The Principal of Sacred Heart College provides academic and pastoral leadership for the entire school community. Working closely with the Catholic Diocese of Aba, the Principal ensures that SAHARCO's standards of excellence, discipline, and faith formation are maintained and advanced in every term. Please visit the school office for the current Principal's details and biography.
SAHARCO is led by a dedicated team of experienced educators and administrators committed to the school's mission. Our leadership structure ensures that every aspect of student life — academic, spiritual, co-curricular, and pastoral — is given the attention it deserves.
The school's governance is overseen by the Catholic Diocese of Aba under the proprietorship of the Most Rev. Bishop, with the day-to-day management entrusted to the Principal and a team of senior staff, department heads, and form masters.
The symbols, colours, and traditions of SAHARCO are not mere decoration — they are the visible expression of values and identity accumulated over six decades.
"Testimonium Perhibere Veritati"
A Latin phrase meaning To Bear Witness to the Truth. Drawn from the Gospel of John (18:37), these words were spoken by Christ before Pilate — a reminder that every SAHARCO man is called to stand for truth at all costs, in all circumstances.
SAHARCO's official colours are Maroon and Gold — colours of dignity, faith, and excellence. Maroon symbolises the Sacred Heart and the courage to stand firm; Gold represents the pursuit of excellence and the light of truth.
SAHARCO's rich traditions include the annual Speech Day & Prize Giving, Inter-House Sports, the Feast of the Sacred Heart, school Masses, and the graduation ceremony for final-year students. These events bind generations of SAHARCO men in a shared sense of belonging and pride.
The school crest features the Sacred Heart at its centre — a constant reminder of the love and courage that every SAHARCO man is called to embody.
